Sept 21st 2025: New Digital Archive Website Launched!

At our AGM and first of our winter talks, Digital Archivist Maureen Kelly launched the new Braemar Local History Group Digital Archive website – http://www.braemarlocalhistory.org.uk. Help and advice was provided by (pictured below) Fiona Hunter (Chair, BLHG); Maureen Kelly; Prof Andrew Flinn (Professor of Archival Studies and Oral History, University College London); Dr Sharon Messenger (Archivist, Librarian and Curator, The British Academy).

Winter Talks 2025/26

All take place on Sunday evenings in Braemar Village Hall at 7.30pm. Entry £3. Raffle and teas.

19th October – Steve Johnson – The street furniture of Upper Deeside. The fascinating history of everyday objects.

16th November: Douglas Ledingham. ‘A Journey Through Time Through 3D Photogrammetry’ which focuses on a chance discovery in 2020 of one of the best Neolithic cup and ring carved stones found in Scotland.

18th January: Simon Blackett on Curling in Braemar and Deeside.

22nd Feb: Culloden. Colin Wight marks the 280th anniversary of the last major battle fought on British soil.

22nd March:  Maureen Kelly on Life in Braemar 100 years ago.

We launched a new history walk in Braemar on June 29 2025. You can now explore village history at your own pace by following 14 plaques complete with a QR code. Start at the 1715 Memorial opposite the Invercauld Arms Hotel and end at the Games Park.
